What if they staged a presser and no one even bothered to mock it?

So, the verbally-challenged nincompoop held a press conference this morning. Fox didn't even air the whole thing, cutting away to regularly scheduled programming about half-way through.

He stood up there, totally devoid of intellect, sentience and the ability to reason and put his pathetic version out there. At one point, he actually asserted that the pressure he has been applying to Iran recently - is why they stopped their weapons program in 2003!!!

Who knew that Mr. Peabody and his Wayback machine were serving in the Bush (mal)administration?

It amounted to a half hour of insisting that Iran is "still dangerous" and a "threat to peace" and can't be allowed the "knowledge" to make a noo-kyu-ler weapon. It was a fucking embarrassment.

They simply can't admit that they are wrong about anything.

And blogtopia™, (Yes! skippy coined that phrase!) didn't even show up to mock him.

Since our pathetic congressional Democrats don't have the political courage, nor the intestinal fortitude to impeach these lying, warmongering, pathetic excuses for Americans - will someone just escort them off the stage, dose, 'em with Haldol, and fast-forward the clock to January 2009?

California is Dreaming of Rain

Keep a good thought for our friends and relatives in California right now. The fires raging from LA to San Diego are the worst that have ever been recorded, and half a million people have been displaced so far. The city of Del Mar has advised all residents to evacuate.

Cookie Jill at skippy the bush kangaroo is keeping all of blogtopia (yes! sctp™!) apprised of the developments.

Lots of our blogging friends are in the thick (smoke) of it all - Kevin Drum, Digby, skippy, Huffington Post, Crooks & Liars, the Politicky Bitch...just off the top of my head - there are many, many more.

Send them karmic rainclouds and hope that Glenn Beck, the latest poster boy for compassionate conservatism, gets his for his crass remark yesterday that "people who hate America are losing their homes today." Fuck you, Beck, you Good German, you. You mendacious, hateful prick - Orange County and San Diego are both full of Republicans and San Diego, especially, is full of retired military. What a classless jerk. I do hope the coop is adequate, because this fucker really has some chickens due to arrive home and roost any minute now.

Calling all Heinlein Fans and MO Bloggers

Over at the most-excellent Political Animal, Kevin Drum plugged an event that is taking place in my back yard - or it would be anyway, if I wasn't an inner-city apartment dweller. The convention is less than a mile away (back when I had a back yard, I was even closer).

I think I am obligated to attend - the first gift my husband gave me as married people was a copy of Friday. We do not call them cell phones at our house - we call them Friday-phones.

Anyway - it turns out that in Blogtopia (Skippy coined that phrase) there are many Heinlein fans. Also in Blogtopia (yes, sctp) Kansas City has a pretty healthy representation. Another KC Blogger, Katiebird, floated the idea of a meet-up of bloggers for some time that weekend.

I think it sounds like fun.

Anyone want to offer their two-cents on this idea? Here is the calendar for the month of July for Knuckleheads, where there is always a chance of a Kathleen Sebelius spotting - and just for good measure, here is the Kansas City Star calendar, too. For those interested in partying, here is the link to the Pitch Weekly (no, that is not the team motto of the KC Royals) clubs listing in the area of the convention.

So - see you in Kansas City, first weekend in July? It's worth the trip just for the 'Q.

The Thinking Blogger Awards

Over the weekend, I got tagged.

Fellow founding blogger at Watching Those We Chose, Dr. Sardonicus of Pole Hill Sanitarium (and fellow WSU Shocker!!!) got tagged as a Thinking Blogger, and I was one of the five he tagged.

The difficulty I faced with passing it on was whittling it down to a mere five, because I consider everyone on my blogroll a Thinking Blogger - or they would not have a spot on my blogroll!!! Seriously, pick anyone on the sidebar and you will find posts put up by people who never just phone it in...

Edger Is always spot-on, and a damned dedicated Democrat. He is the guy who took the idea floated by Big Tent Democrat for the Out of Iraq Blogger Caucus and made it happen. (Anyone wanting to join us, email edger10@gmail.com to get on the reciprocal blogroll!)

Supergirlest is always a-musing. (And she is my literal, physical neighbor!) She can be absolutely scathing; yet butter wouldn't melt in her mouth...as witnessed here. She has a toddler to care for, and just went back to work, so she hasn't had the time to post as frequently as I would like, because I could read her every day, but what she does have time to post is always primo. And c'mon - a woman who named her blog My Thinking Spot was just begging to get tagged...

Doc Larry is one of my partners in crime over at WTWC, and the source of so many of my graphics it isn't even cool to admit...He is a fellow Missouri blogger - fighting the good fight in Springfield - the reddest part of our red state. He is a real journalist, and his sense of humor is simply sublime...Definitely a Thinking Blogger.

exMI and I disagree on pretty much everything about the war in Iraq, and we have actually even had a couple of spats in comments. But on pretty much every other issue we can at the very least find common ground. I imagine if we were back-fence neighbors the discussions would be, at the very least, interesting. Hell, other neighbors might even call the cops. I am of the opinion that if you can't hold your own and defend your positions outside the echo chamber, you should probably keep your opinions to your damned self.

Angry Black Bitch is my kindred spirit on the other side of the state, keeping a watchful eye on those mendacious bastards in St. Louis...With wit, aplomb and pure fucking attitude. Definitely give this bitch a read - regularly.

There ya go guys.

Tag. You're it.

Rock on, irreverently...

I've had this song stuck in my head all day. There is only one remedy for that affliction - I have to pass it on!

Here's to you, John Peel...You rocked us all, and I am so bloody glad I grew up a brat and heard BBC 1 during my formative years. While my friends and cousins stateside were listening to Casey Kasem and America's Top 40 - I was getting my socks rocked by John Peel on BBC Radio 1.

When I deplaned in 1979 in Chicago, for my summer visit with the cousins, I was sporting black spikey hair and a nose ring. (This made me look exactly like a vampire, as I am a natural redhead and the Whitest Woman in the World™). The nose-ring was, like, 20 years early, and I really got some strange looks that summer in small-town Iowa. Which I totally got off on, of course.

I was so changed in the six months that had passed since Christmas that my auntie didn't recognize me and I do believe I have actually witnessed an attack of the vapors.

But TMI already! Besides, you don't care about any of that anyway...so turn the volume up and enjoy the

Best. Bloody. Song. Ever. Recorded!!!

At least a lot of people my age will agree with that sentiment.

And remember, it doesn't count unless you play this one twice...

Some Well-Deserved Love for a Couple of my Friends!!!

On the Opinion page of todays Kansas City Star, not one but two of the fine bloggers I proudly link to under “These are my friends - Show them some love!” were recognized in the Blog Bits feature! (Blog bits excerpts two blogs per day, so thats as good as it can get!)

Dan from Gone Mild was recognized for weighing in humorously on the latest local tempest in a teapot - this one over the mayor-mobile outgoing Mayor Kay Barnes selected for the Funk:

Things might have gone differently if she had chosen a cooler car. Maybe a Crossfire like Glazer drives. Or maybe she could have used her big business contacts to hook him up with one of those new Camaros GM has planned. Sweet. A Mustang Convertible would have been a fine sled for the Funk, especially if she tricked it out with a fine sound system and thumping bass. Personally, I would have picked out a mini-van with tinted windows for the Mayor, driven it down to the Crossroads, and told the artists down there to make that vehicle into a statement. Yeah, that's how I'd make Mark roll.

And Diane Silver of In This Moment (and Watching Those We Chose!!!) does it again! She was one of the first people to blogroll me, and her site was one of the first I blogrolled. She kept me informed about the goings on in Topeka for years when I lived in Wichita and she was the statehouse correspondent for the Wichita Eagle. When I came up with the idea for Watching Those We Chose, she was quite literally one of the first people I asked to join me (sure, part of me wanted to swing off her honest to god journalistic cred…but isn’t that a compliment too?) Anyway, she graciously accepted my invitation and I am proud to be associated with her. She does some mighty fine work.

I didn't used to believe that Kansas would ever support our families. Oddly enough, my opinion changed in 2004 when the far right started pushing for a ban on same-sex marriage. They eventually succeeded in winning a constitutional ban on marriage and civil unions, but even with that failure, we won.

Oh yes, our families were hurt horribly. I don't deny the suffering the ban has caused. But what truly shocked me was how much support we have. Because of the religious right's push for the marriage ban, we found each other. Because of that, the political landscape of this state looks far different today than it did just a few years ago.

Congratulations guys! Keep up the good work!
