Down to Zero - One of my all-time favorite songs, by one of my all-time favorite singer-songwriters. Wow - it just hit me that I bought her self-titled album over 30 years ago. Wow. Cool. I still enjoy it as much as I ever did.
Rock on.
Now you realize why 4 Non Blondes sounded so damned deja vu the first time you heard them, don't you?
Another of the founding fathers of rock-n-roll has shuffled off this mortal coil. Legendary guitarist and showman Bo Diddley died of heart failure earlier today. He suffered a heart attack in August, three months after suffering a stroke while touring. He never recovered from that one-two punch.
He left his mark on American culture with hot licks on a homemade guitar, and a stage show that never disappointed, and later in his carer inspired crowd antics that were almost as entertaining as the show on the stage...not quite, but sometimes they came close.
Enjoy a little Road Runner and see what I mean about the crowds...
Rock on, Bo. And be sure to find all those white boys who beat you to the auditions in rock-n-roll heaven. Most of 'em have been waiting a long, long time to ask you about some of those licks.
In about six and a half hours it will officially be my oldest daughters birthday.
As I am one of those lefties who considers family values through the "I value my family" lens, I'll be busy the rest of today and most of tomorrow. I will make sure the roundup and the quick hits get done, but it might be Monday or Tuesday before I get to one of the five (or is it six?) GAO reports that are sitting in my in-box.
Thanks for being patient. We are no longer a workstation down, now we are just busy.
Have a good weekend and our regular blogging schedule will resume on Monday.
In the meantime, you can enjoy some of her favorite music after the jump...
I'm following election returns at MSNBC, and will update periodically. Polls just closed but they were calling the Republican race for McCain before a single vote was counted.
UPDATE I 8:50 p.m.
With 14% of precincts reporting, Obama leads 56% to 43%, and MSNBC is calling it for him. I dunno - Super Tuesday and the Missouri fiasco is still fresh in my memory, so it just seems silly to call it with 85% of the vote uncounted...But that's just me...
UPDATE II - 10:45 p.m.
Two hours and a bubble bath later, and the percentages didn't change and Clinton's campaign is in trouble. It looks like Obama is likely to be our nominee. He absolutely crushed Hillary tonight in Wisconsin.
But once again, the story is in the overwhelming numbers of Democrats voting. Again, Hillary came in a lagging second, and still ran circles around the entire republican slate. As of this update, Hillary is closing in on 400,000 votes, while all the republicans together are struggling toward 350,000.
I'm going to wait until after March 5th, but if it goes the way it looks like it will, I will consider it time to get behind the presumptive nominee and get busy getting him elected and exposing McCain's many faults.
Jeebus. I am just so sick of the horserace and the infighting and the perfidy and the selling out of the Constitution, and the broken Army and the lying and the fearmongering and, and, and...well, just about every damned thing.
Fuck it.
Have some Siberian surf-punk from the Red Elvises...
...to the Coyote Club. It was the mid-eighties, some of my very best ass-years. Back when 501's on chicks with clean faces who smelled like soap were sexy. Remember?
These guys rocked the joint to the rafters and the party in the parking lot lasted 'til almost dawn.
This is the Decider. He isn't a very good Decider, but he is the Decider none the less.
One of the things he decided to do was really, really stupid.
But he's the Decider and he Decided and it was Done. :
Soon after that was done, a lot of people looked around and said "Oh, Shit" because they started to realize that what the Decider had decided to do was really dumb; and soon, they were all asking the same question:
And the Decider kept deciding, and insisting that too-cute-by-half sound bites like "when they stand up, we'll stand down" were policy and strategy rolled into one three second clip.
(I told you that he is a really, really stupid Decider.)
I was working on a post that will be coming along momentarily, and the neuron that stores the memory of this song fired. So I went to YouTube and hooked it up.
Honestly, I was going to skip it today since I am using dial-up this weekend - but then this morning the sun rose red in the east from where I was watching, and I thought of this song immediately. It is short enough to download even on dial-up, so now it can be stuck in your head, too.
I'm staying up north an extra day - last week was a hell of a week and I am still processing it all. Snarky blogging to return say - late tomorrow, perhaps Tuesday? (Although I am working on a post for WTWC that should be up later today.)
