Oops!

Somebody didn't think things through very well. Darn those unintended consequences, anyway!

Turns out that McCain pissed off some deep-pocketed donors with his "celebrity" ad...The Hilton family.

The father and grandfather of Paris Hilton have donated tens of thousands of dollars to both the campaign and the RNC, and her grandfather, William Barron Hilton (co-chair of the Hilton Hotel empire), is furious. As in, on a scale of one to ten, he's at eleven. Her father Rick Hilton, who has also kicked in a few thousand bucks to the McCain effort is none too happy, either.

Every time Paris Hilton is in the news, it damages the brand, and that likely steams another large donor - The Blackstone Group - which is a part-owner of the hotel chain. Blackstone's chairman, Peter G. Peterson has given over $30,000 to the McCain campaign this year.

Guess who else had his secretary put through a call to the campaign this morning?

UPDATE I: 532PM / Warren
Yes, we know there's a picture of sweet, adorable Paris in the side-bar--we're not reporting or blogging about her latest flashing incident. We're talking about the tens of thousands of dollars her family has given to Republicans over the years--decades--and we're laughing our asses off at how mad the Hilton family and their associates are at the McCain campaign. This is not twittery--its schaddenfreud!

UPDATE II: 636PM / Warren
Huckleberry Graham and Lyin' Joe Lieberman defend the Paris Hilton ad. Graham tries to make the case that the fame enjoyed by Spears, Hilton and Obama is "fame without portfolio." If that's not the most damning indictment of a man who went through five planes, set an aircraft carrier on fire, graduated near the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy, traded in one wife for another and helped nobody but lobbyists throughout his entire Congressional career, I don't know what is. The stupid burns like nothing else...

Agenda whores dying of virulent syphilis

Get ready to mock and ridicule, lefties. Freedom's Watch is falling under it's own weight, brought down by internal squabbling, congenital ineptitude, and the inherent trait that these conservative morons lack the capacity to organize a two-pony parade.

A year ago, they burst on the scene with a fifteen million dollar advertising campaign that was designed specifically to help their floundering fuckup in the oval office run out the clock on Iraq by promoting Keane and Kagan's AEI wet dream that came to be known as "the Surge™." Back in those heady days, they were talking about spending two hundred million dollars (these people lie easily...glibly, even) and by golly, they were gonna put us DFH liberals back in our place - we were going to tremble and quake before the mighty Freedom Agenda™ that could not be denied...It was going to roll down the mountain like an avalanche - unstoppable and minting patriots in it's wake! The entire country would be moved to enlist in the military! (Except for the sickly, cowardly brats that comprise the fruit of their loins, of course.)

Oh, we were scared...we quaked before the mighty rod of Freedom!

But after making that initial splash, the group seemed to fade away. Now, instead of providing that touted and ballyhooed "much needed conservative counter" to MoveOn.org and all those America-hating Soros-funded projects; but alas...now it is doubtful that the syphilitic agenda whores will even have a role to play as the election season ramps up. Eli Pariser of MoveOn characterized the group this way: “So far it has been a lot of bark and not a lot of bite.”

The group was conspicuously absent as the Petraeus Promenade was reprised in front of the congress last week, and remains eerily silent as a liberal-leaning group, Progressive Media USA, gins up to take the offensive against John McShameless, but Ari Fleischer waved off that observation, asserting that “[T]he judgment was made that General Petraeus’s testimony in the spring of 2008 was nowhere near as important as his testimony in the fall of 2007.” Of course not - aWol's field position isn't nearly so important now as it was in September. Now it's the next president's baby. In that regard, the troop buildup worked.

As for me, I always like a little schaddenfreud with my quad-shot on a Saturday morning. Suck on it, bitches.

No Love for Corrupt ex-Congressman JD Hayworth

Poor JD Hayworth. When last we saw him, he was getting swept out of office for being too corrupt for the people of Arizona to tolerate. Now he's begging for cash:

In my case, I firmly believe Justice Department lawyers started preliminary inquiries AFTER the stories appeared. In other words, DOJ attorneys read the papers like everyone else, and the false allegations appearing in the press and on the internet attracted their attention.

At any rate, I had to retain legal counsel in Washington , D.C. to communicate with the Justice Department and co-ordinate compliance with the DOJ’s requests for documents. Whatever remained in the campaign treasury went to cover those fees–and they did not cover them completely.

As a result, I still have outstanding legal bills that total in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

That’s why “The Freedom in Truth Trust” has been established. Its name comes from holy scripture (”You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”–John 8:32), and its acronym (FIT) is accurate, since this entire episode has given us fits!

The trust was set up by local legal counsel and is administered by a California accounting firm.

Because this is not a political campaign account, IRS gift rules govern personal contributions. Individuals can give a total of $12,000 (twelve thousand dollars) annually; married couples can contribute a total of $24,000 (twenty four thousand dollars).

Ha Ha! Yeah, you read that right. Married couples can pony up 24K. What? The economy isn't THAT bad, right?

"Justice Department" lawyers went after you? The same group that couldn't find corruption in the Republican Party if it hit them in the head? You've gotta be a blatantly corrupt member to get chased after by a Republican controlled DOJ, dude. As in, stupid enough to make a bribe menu. Stupid enough to write shit down in E-mails and stupid enough to think you would never get caught.

Hey--if DOJ couldn't make a case against you, well, all the better. It's a rule of law thing, and if they couldn't nail you, they couldn't nail you. Ain't freedom sweet? Sounds like someone's bitching because they got to keep their freedom. Is that really the American way?

I left my "donation" at his site:

What happened to the boasting loudmouth who used to go on Imus and run Democrats down?

Suck on it, Hayworth, you miserable clown. You oughta be wearing an orange jumpsuit and picking up trash along the freeway.

You know, some of my best work NEVER sees the light of day. Wingnuts moderate their stuff so tight you'd think the words a, an and the were intended to separate them from their mortal coil.

Hey, JD? Has Russert called lately?

When a Republican can’t get any love in Wichita….

That is pretty sad – that is a Republican that can only accurately be described as a Pariah.

And Donald “I’ll fire the next guy who asks about a post-invasion plan” Rumsfeld is just such a Republican. He was scheduled to appear at the Wichita Chamber of Commerce annual falderal on December 4, but so many people objected, his engagement was unceremoniously canceled, and his replacement was announced today…Tony Snow. As in “More than six feet of snow is forecast inside Century II on Tuesday, Dec. 4.”

(Doesn’t that tagline just make you groan in embarrassment? Or is it just me, because I am always going to be marginally connected to that place – as in all my best girlfriends, the women I raised a family with in the absence of actual family near by, still live there?)

Anyway, the Wichita Chamber of Commerce is so far to the right they look down on John Birchers as Dirty Fucking Hippies. Past speakers at the annual "do" include Rudy (2004), Bush the Elder (2005), and that unholy union of Matalin & Carville (2006) (which should be quite enough proof to everyone that the ragin’ Cajun ain’t on our side any more.)

Anyway – I had such a schaddenfreud moment when my friend P. called me squealing like a schoolgirl a few minutes ago and I just had to share!
