Friday morning quick hits

Runnin' scared, little rabbit?
Kark Rove has not only skipped his command performance in front of the House Judiciary committee; after Representative Conyers made noises about having him arrested if he failed to appear, the fetid fuck has fled the country. Perhaps he will set foot in a country that will arrest his ass for violating international law by undermining Justice? It seems that I heard a compelling case made for just that...Oh, the fantasies I am having right now of soft, pudgy, overfed, white republicans with soft hands on chain gangs...someone...please...stop me now.....I have just learned that Conyers has given Rove five days to comply with the subpoena. But don't get too hopeful just yet - the House has also approved contempt resolutions against White House chief of staff John Bolten and former White House counsel Harriet Miers, but the bu$h Just-Us Department won't nut up and bring criminal charges against them. It is now yet another case languishing in federal court, long enough for mad king george to pardon the criminal fuckers. Because our congresscritters won't impeach. I almost have to wonder what the rs have on the Ds to keep them on this leash? The fucking republicans were probably wiretapping the opposition long before nine-eleven - and if it went both ways, that would explain the willingness of the democrats to cave on telecom immunity...okay, I'll go fetch my tinfoil hat now...

Has Harry located the box where the republicans stored his stones?
Asked about Lieberman's chances of retaining his gavel next year. Asked about the preposterous antics Warhead McSame's BFF - specifically his offer to go Zell Miller batshit crazy and speak at the republican convention. “Let’s talk about this year” said Reid, but when pressed he gave a dram more....“Next year will be next year when we get there.” Pressed further to indicate whether that meant that he would be open to stripping Lieberman of his leadership position and Homeland Security gavel, Reid said: “I’m not open to anything,” but added: “I’m just waiting to get through this year when I have a 51-vote majority.” That is in line with what I want to hear, but Joe? Not so much.

The final "fuck you's" have started
The bu$h administration has successfully strangled any EPA ability to regulate greenhouse gases this year. The bu$h EPA will announce today that it plans seek months of further public comment on the threat posed by global warming to human health and welfare, in spite of the fact that lots of people far smarter that the clown occupying the oval and all his minions - have repeatedly said should be urgently addressed. You might recall that a little over a year ago the Supreme Court - in a stunning rebuke to the idiot in charge - ordered the EPA to decide whether human health and welfare are being harmed by greenhouse gas pollution from cars, power plants and other sources, or to provide a good explanation for not doing so. But the administration has opted to stonewall and pass the buck. Keeping their record of accountability a perfect ZERO

$150 a barrel next week?
More than likely - it passed $147 briefly today, before settling back to $146.60 - and the day ain't over...

If you rely on a volunteer fire department, gas prices might keep them from responding should you need them The problems are the same across the country, where more than two-thirds of the geography is protected by an estimated 800,000 volunteers. Most of them work in rural areas, where they must drive long distances to emergencies and often rely on donations from spaghetti dinners and bingo nights..."A lot of these (departments) are already struggling financially," said David Finger, the vice president for government affairs for the National Volunteer Fire Council in Washington. "This is just heaped on top of it." ...Christ - just go read the whole thing - I can't do it justice with a quote or in an abstract.

We told you that with the Supremes in recess it was up to the lower courts to take up the bitchslapping of the Bush administration and today another one of them did just that when it threw out the threw out the government's appeal in the case in which a watchdog group is trying to find out how often prominent religious conservatives visited the White House and Vice President Dick Cheney's residence. It doesn't mean that we'll learn anything, but it does mean that they have to squirm and stall and deal with it as the clock runs out, and years ago an old Turk gave me a piece of advice that I have taken with me since that day - aggravation is it's own reward, when you are doing the aggravating.

We aren't experts or anything, but we have been saying this for years It's basic COIN, fer cryin' out loud! American troops need at least a minimum level of foreign language skills before they deploy. This is a huge stumbling block, however - because language skills need to be introduced the first day of kindergarten.

Well, we got close enough I can make the trip - it's going to be a tight budget, but doable - thanks to you guys! I will be okay whether I end up with a hundred bucks of breathing room for unexpected expenses or not - and Kevin Drum might get stuck buying my lunch one day - but the trip is a go and that is what matters! To all who donated, thank you, thank you, thank you - a million times thank you!
