Thank you everyone! I'm going to Austin!

The winners have been announced, and I was one of 'em! For everyone who supported me, I am ever so grateful. This is a great opportunity and I am just overwhelmed!

The Netroots Nation convention will take place from July 17-20 at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. Now I am scraping and scrounging to stretch my reduced income to cover the train ticket and the week I will be unavailable to take shifts when the agency calls - and in the summer months there is no substitute teaching to be done.

In light of the scholarship win, we are adjusting our summer fundraising schedule. Instead of our normal month-of-August fundraiser, we are going to go ahead and appeal for donations now, over the next two weeks...and if the response is like it was in January, we'll call it early and skip August all together - we aren't greedy bastards - we'll quit when we hit our goal.

Thanks again for all your support. You are why we do what we do.

Calling it a success a couple of days early

Wow! You guys are the best! You really came through with the fundraiser, and I am humbled, awed and overwhelmed.

I have ordered a new laptop and printer, shared some love with Pale Rider, set aside a few bucks for another rainy day (that daughter is a ways from being called "Doctor," after all) and in a few days when the snail-mail donations have finished trickling in, we will be making a donation to Fisher House, on behalf of the authors and readers of this site.

We appreciate your donations and sharing your hard-earned money with us. It feels really good to know that the niche we have carved out over here is appreciated to such a degree. I will spend the rest of my life living up to the standard I set for myself based on your overwhelming display of confidence.

Thank you all again. If you are still in a giving mood, I would like to suggest you direct donations to either Fisher House, or the Kansas City Public Library, or any of the fine organizations listed in the left sidebar, under the heading “worthy causes.”

What a start!

Wow! Thanks to one and all! On the very first day of our fundraiser, we raised 20% of our goal!

Thanks to all who jumped in and contributed immediately, and thanks in advance to those of you who are planning to!

If this keeps up for a couple of more days, I'll be back full-time in short order, perhaps by the weekend!

And remember the incentive to become a subscriber...as soon as this blog has 20 monthly subscribers - for the low, low price of five bucks a month - the google ads go away forever!
