Saturday Morning Quick Hits

Spanish language television and the digital divide
In a few months, when television signal stops broadcasting in analog, Spanish speaking households will likely feel the impact most acutely. Roughly one-third of all television sets still receiving signal via antenna are in Spanish speaking households, and are the least prepared for the switch. Some lawmakers and community leaders fear that the efforts have fallen short in informing viewers who watch TV with rabbit-ear antennas that those days are numbered. Consumers who do not speak English rely heavily on such television broadcasts to receive critical information such as news and weather warnings. But these communities have been the hardest to reach and educate about the transition.

More reviled than Nixon
Only 24% of California voters approve of Bush's job performance. That is the most dismal showing of any president since the Field Poll began tracking White House numbers in 1961. Nixon was at 30% right before he resigned in disgrace, but the inept doofus aWol doesn't have the decency to slink away.

It's a slim majority, but a majority none the less
By about two percentage points, Californians favor leaving the constitution the way it is and allowing gay and lesbian couples to enjoy full citizenship and the right to marry the person they love.

Silence the messenger
Chinese police arrested a human rights campaigner in the country's southwest for "possession of state secrets" after he offered help to parents of children killed in the region's massive earthquake, his family said...Huang Qi was detained in quake-hit Sichuan province on June 10, and on Friday police told his mother of his formal arrest on the secrets charge, his wife Zeng Li said by phone on Saturday...Police in the Wuhou area of Sichuan's provincial capital Chengdu, where Huang was arrested, said they had no knowledge of the case.

And that's the quick hits - time to go glare at the speaker and scream "IMPREACHMENT!!!" at her mentally and hope she finally fucking gets it. More from Austin a bit later.
