Jesse Helms, the odious, mean-spirited old racist who said that Kaffi Annan "ought to be horsewhipped" and who taunted this countries first black female Senator in a Senate elevator by saying that he was going to "sing Dixie 'til she cries" is dead and gone. Few people of conscience and good will will miss him. In fact, many, like me, will feel a measure of relief that such a foul, malignant creature has departed our midst, and not a moment too soon.
May Ms. Carol Mosley-Braun enjoy a glorious holiday.
